TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - We’re celebrating the grand reopening of the Kansas Museum of History with a look back at its original opening in this week’s trip into the WIBW Video Vault.

You’ll see the very beginnings of the facility, from the 1981 groundbreaking to how some very large display pieces made their arrival, and how it all came together.

The museum has been closed since September 2022 for a major renovation project. It reopens Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025 with a 9:30 a.m. ribbon cutting program. To thank everyone for their patience during the long closure, the museum will have free admission through the end of 2025.

We bring you a new WIBW Video Vault segment at 12:30 p.m. every Thursday on the WIBW.com livestream, on our mobile app, or on your Roku or other streaming device.
