UPDATE: Woman seen forcibly taken on doorbell camera found safe, police say
WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - UPDATE: The Wichita Police Department said its investigation into a possible abduction in north Wichita caught a break Tuesday afternoon with confirmation that a woman, shown on doorbell camera footage being forcibly taken from a front porch, is safe.
At about 3 p.m. Tuesday, police said a woman, “claiming to be the individual investigators were attempting to identify,” called investigators who “immediately responded to her location, made contact, and transported her to City Hall so detectives could conduct a victim interview.”
:We have identified the female as a 35-year-old female who lives in the area where the video was captured. At this stage of the investigation, we believe this incident is a case of domestic violence where the female was victimized by her boyfriend. The female does not have any significant injuries," Wichita police said.
The WPD thanked the public for sharing the widespread video and photos that showed a man forcibly taking the woman from the porch.
“We are continuing our investigation into the video and the case will be presented to the appropriate attorney’s office for formal charging consideration,” police said.
The Wichita Police Department released new video Monday afternoon showing a man who appears to be taking a woman against her will.
Police said the video came from a home in the 1400 block of N. Volutsia. The incident happened around 2 a.m. on Sunday. It was reported later that evening.
In the video, the woman appears to be approaching the porch when she yells, “Kevin,” and a man comes from behind her, turns her around and forcibly walks her back to the street, where they both disappear.
12 News spoke to the homeowner about the incident. They said they don’t know the woman. Other neighbors said the block is normally quiet, and they’re not used to a lot of crime.
One neighbor said the incident hits close to home because she has a young daughter and is now scared for her safety, as well as that of other young girls living in the area.
If you recognize the woman or the man, or have any information about their identity or whereabouts, please contact 911 immediately.
