WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Wabaunsee County Sheriff’s Office put out a warning on social media to drivers caught drinking and driving.

“If you are wasted and actually need to go somewhere, run an errand, sorta anything at all, you have options,” said the sheriff’s office.

The sheriff’s office posted two photos showing an officer putting someone’s hands behind their back and another photo of a cup with drink inside with the caption “morning DUI/open container.”

“Do not operate nor attempt to operate a motor vehicle when you are under the influence of any substance,” the post states. “It is so incredibly dangerous and selfish and we are mandated by statute to arrest you and will, 100% of the time.”

The Wabaunsee County Sheriff says instead of driving under the influence, call a family member, a friend or the sheriff’s office who will bring anyone home or where they need to go.

“Enforcement alone is insufficient,” the sheriff’s office said in the post. “That’s why we started our proactive DD program. Do not end up in handcuffs, the ICU or the morgue.”
