Kansas Humane Society warning of scam call asking for money to pay for surgery for lost pet

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - The Kansas Humane Society says they have received numerous reports about scammers claiming to be with the group asking for money for a lost pet in need of a procedure.

The KHS posted on social media that people are spoofing their phone number and asking for hundreds or thousands of dollars through Venmo or over the phone for a surgery for a lost pet that was hit by a car.

Local lost and found pet groups on social media are believed to be what is being used to target people.

The Kansas Humane Society says they will never ask someone to prepay for a surgery.
