Crews respond to van fire Tuesday afternoon in west Topeka

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Crews responded to a van fire early Tuesday afternoon near a busy west Topeka intersection.

The blaze was reported around 12:03 p.m. Tuesday at S.W. 17th and Fairlawn Road.

Topeka Fire Department crews quickly extinguished the blaze, officials said.

The van’s occupants were able to get out of the vehicle before firefighters arrived on the scene.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was still undetermined as of Wednesday morning, officials said. However, preliminary information points to a mechanical issue as the most likely cause of the fire.
