Kansas small businesses honored for outstanding efforts

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Outstanding businesses from around Kansas were recognized in a Statehouse ceremony Tuesday evening.

The Kansas Business Development Center presented its annual awards.

Each of the eight regional SBDC sites chose an existing, emerging and exporting business of the year. The regional sites are based at various state colleges.

Of the thousands of businesses they assist each year, 17 were chosen for honors.

Six businesses from northeast Kansas were among the honorees --- Radius Brewing in Emporia, KAE Advisors in Lawrence, The Wabaunsee County Signal Enterprise Newspaper, Bella Rose Boutique, Sugar Creek County Store in St. Mary’s, and North Wind Technical Services in Sabetha.

"It's not easy,” said Bella Boutique owner, Linday Beyer. “We've all worked very hard and we don't always get that recognition so it’s nice. Even the smallest bit of recognition is just a big confidence boost for us."

13's Melissa Brunner emceed the awards presentation.
