EMPORIA, Kan. (AP) _ The Kansas Board of Regents has appointed a professor of public administration at Wichita State University to serve as interim president of Emporia State.
Edward Flentje will serve from July 1 until a new president takes office. The Regents announced the appointment Monday and said Flentje has indicated he won't be a candidate for the presidency on a permanent basis.
Emporia State president Michael Lane announced May 5 that he was resigning effective June 30. Lane said his visit last fall to an Illinois school that was looking for a new president had become a distraction at Emporia, even though he withdrew from consideration from that job.
Flentje has taught at Wichita State since 1979. He holds a bachelor's degree from Emporia State and a doctorate from the University of Kansas.
