SAVANNAH, Ga. (CBS) -- Watch as this Savannah Chatham (GA) Metro Police officer gets dragged across the parking lot and frees himself before nearly getting run over.
"He basically like circled around over here and finally fell off the car you know - almost could have got ran over." said store manager Prerak Patel.
Police are searching for 23 year old Brandon Adams who they believe was the driver.
Officers originally responded to a shoplifting incident at the Shell gas station on White Bluff when then store manager pointed out Adams to police for cashing a fake check. But when the officer tried to talk to him, he drove away with the officers arm tangled in the seat belt.
"I was just shocked. It took me a second to run to him and I saw all of his stuff was ripped up and everything," Patel said.
Police say Adams should have obeyed the officer's lawful commands, but instead he is now facing very serious charges.
"There's always an opportunity to sort out before a judge your story, but in this case it would have been far better for the subject to have obeyed the police officer. The officer returned to work the next day. Fortunately he's alright," Major Larry Branson said.
