U.S. Attorney leads raids on Topeka homes and businesses

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- 13 News has learned the US Attorney’s Office is heading up a raid on several Topeka residences and businesses, although Barry Grissom’s office has not released any specifics on the raids.

Our first tip came Thursday night in the Area of SW 39th and Atwood. 13 News has been told that Topeka Police, Lawrence Police and Federal officers were involved in a search of a residence at 3860 SW Atwood. Shawnee County property documents indicate that home is owned by Cynthia Johnson.

On Friday morning, a viewer called and told us she was with children at a gymnastics class at Cage Gymnastics, at 2927 SW 37th Street. She said she heard a commotion outside the business and saw a car ram a nearby building. She said numerous officers with guns drawn surrounded that vehicle and officers with K9’s also appeared on the scene.

Later, a 3rd tip from a viewer that the Carriage House Apartments, at 1601 SW 37th Terrace being raided by law enforcement officers.

13 NEWS contacted Topeka Police and spokesperson Lt. Colleen Stuart advised us that The law enforcement action at all three events was under the supervision of the US Attorney.

13 NEWS placed a call to Barry Grissom’s office but at news time have not gotten any specifics on the 3 raids or information as to other possible raids going on this afternoon. WE will give you more information when it becomes available to us.
