TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- The trial scheduled this week for a former Jefferson County fire chief did not take place.

A jury trial for John Gordon was scheduled to take place Tuesday. But the Jefferson County District Court says that the trial did not take place. They say instead that a diversion hearing has been scheduled for Dec. 21.

Gordon has been charged with felony theft and felony misuse of public funds. Gordon pleaded not guilty to the charges in November 2014. Authorities say he stole between $1,000 and $25,000 while he was fire chief in Valley Falls.
