Police determine suspicious object at West Ridge Mall as non-hazardous

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Topeka Police Department's Lt. Bill White told 13 NEWS they received a report of a suspicious package at West Ridge Mall.

According to TPD, officers responded to reports of a suspicious person prowling near a vehicle parked near Dillard's at the West Ridge Mall around 8 p.m. Saturday.

When crews surveyed the scene, they found an unusual object attached to the interior of a wheel well of the vehicle. Explosive Ordinance Disposal technicians were called to the scene to assist.

The object was removed and the vehicle was released to the owner. TPD also stated the object was examined and determined to be non-hazardous.

Lt. White said they followed all precautions to make sure the public was safe.

Mall security could not comment on the incident.

The investigation is ongoing regarding the suspicious person who was seen near the vehicle.
