Sen. Roberts Heads To School To Learn About Lunches

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- A Kansas senator shared a nutritious meal with some local students Tuesday afternoon.

Senator Pat Roberts was in the lunch line at Pauline South Intermediate School.

Roberts chairs the Senate Ag Committee which will consider the Child Nutrition Act. He and his staff are holding a series of ‘meet-and-eats’ throughout the state. They are looking at what is working and what is not working when it comes to school breakfast and lunch programs.

“I think we’re finding we need more flexibility for the school nutritionists and the people working within the program,” said Roberts.

Pauline South was Roberts’ third school he has visited. He will visit 10 when his tour is done.

If you are wondering, Roberts has chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, a roll and milk for lunch.
