Republican Group Announces Endorsement For Greg Orman

TOPEKA, Kansas (WIBW) -- A Kansas Republican organization announced it is endorsing a candidate in the U.S. Senate race.

Traditional Republicans for Common Sense announced it is backing Greg Orman at a news conference at the Kansas statehouse Wednesday morning.

Several members of the group were present to talk about why they will vote for Orman in the upcoming November elections, including former Kansas Senators and Representatives. They say Orman's fiscally conservative and socially moderate and tolerant views are in-line with the views of TRCS.

Former Kansas Senator Tim Owens said the country and Kansas are at a loss because extremists are running both, and Orman will be an answer to the problem.

"If he were to go to Washington he would be able to speak across the aisle with both sides of the political spectrum," Owens said. "I believe the only way we are going to get back to common sense is by pulling us back toward the center."

Former House member Rochelle Chronister said her decision to back Orman is because she is not satisfied with the current Congress, calling them a "do-nothing" group.

"He is a pragmatist he is a problem solver, and his decision to run was mainly based on the fact that he believes there should be a centrist agreement," Chronister said.

Chairman of Traditional Republicans for Common Sense Dr. Jim Yonally released this statement on behalf of the group:

The Board of Directors of Traditional Republicans for Common Sense has reviewed the qualifications of many candidates for office in the coming election. As a result of that review, we believe Greg Orman is the best qualified candidate for the office of United States Senator from Kansas. Furthermore, we find his views to be very much in line with the goals of TRCS."

TRCS was founded two years ago by Yonally, who felt the Republican Party was drifting further and further to the right. More than 70 members comprise the group.
