Suspicious Resident Leads Police To Stolen Car; Suspects On Run

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) – A resident's suspicions led police to a stolen car - and sparked a large search in Douglas Co. this afternoon.

The Douglas Co. Sheriff's Office says a person in the western part of the country called authorities after two men knocked on her door to ask for directions and then drove off.

A deputy later spotted a vehicle matching the description in Big Springs and turned around to follow it. Two people jumped out and ran.

Turns out, the car had been reported stolen earlier that day. Authorities also found items inside the car that were tied to several other recent burglaries in the area.

The Shawnee Co. Sheriff's Office and Kansas Highway Patrol assisted in the search, but the suspects haven't been found.

Authorities added it's not unusual for burglars to knock on a door first to see if anyone is home, so be cautious of strangers approaching your door and get descriptions of them and their vehicles.
