TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)- The Big Red One is saying farewell to its commanding general.
Maj. Gen. Paul E. Funk II is set to hand over command next week. Maj. Gen. Wayne W. Grigsby Jr. will take over as the new commanding general.
Funk served as the division’s deputy commanding general for maneuver for two years before taking command in May 2013. He has also led the division headquarters during deployment in Southwest Asia. The command formed the core of the Combined Joint Forces Land Component Command-Iraq.
Funk will go on to serve at the U.S. Army’s assistant deputy chief of staff for operations and plans in Washington D.C.
A ceremony will be held Aug. 6 at 10 a.m. at Fort Riley’s Cavalry Parade Field.
Grigsby last served as commander of Combined Joint Task Force- Horn of Africa.
