JUNCTION CITY, Kan. (WIBW) -- A Fort Riley soldier was taken into custody following a standoff in Junction City on Tuesday, according to Police Chief Tim Brown.

Brown said his department received a report of an alleged child abuse and identified the suspect as 29 year-old Brian A. Mastin.

Shortly thereafter, they learned that Mastin was at home and possibly suicidal. In addition to being suicidal, they were warned that Mastin may be armed with several weapons. He also reportedly said that if police were sent to his home, "they will die."

Officers first arrived at his home, 1515 W. Ash #4, around 1:20 p.m. and set up a perimeter around the complex. They evacuated everyone else who lived nearby and started talking to Mastin.

Shortly after 3:00 p.m., a police negotiator, along with members of Mastin's military unit, were able to convince him to surrender. He was then arrested on Child Abuse and Criminal Threat charges and taken to the Geary County Jail.
