TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- There is a local connection to the tragedy at an Oregon community college on Thursday.
Roxanne Kelly, the former dean of Washburn, Tech is now the Vice-President for Instruction at Umpqua Community College.
She posted on her Facebook page that she and her husband are safe, but it was a tragic day - and one she never thought she would experience.
Ten people were killed when a gunman opened fire at Oregon's Umpqua Community College on Thursday. Seven other people were injured, and the shooter is dead, Douglas County Sheriff John Hanlin told reporters. Earlier estimates had put the number of people hurt much higher.
