EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Prairie Street Bridge in Emporia is closed after the second straight logjam fire in less than a week.

KVOE reports that fire crews were called to the fire that developed under the bridge near the Neosho River, shortly before 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

This follows a similar fire from Wednesday night, where an unattended campfire smoldered for an undetermined amount of time before catching fire.

The fires have prompted Lyon Co. Engineer Chip Woods to close the bridge until further notice, so that a structural engineer can determine its safety.
