Driver Arrested For DUI After Head-On Crash

TOPEKA A Topeka man has been charged with a DUI, in an head-on collision in Shawnee County.

The Shawnee County Sheriff's Department has charged, Angel Luis Rivera, 43, with driving under the influence, driving while revoked, no motor vehicle insurance and driving on wrong side of divided highway.

The Sheriff's Office received a report just after 1:00 a.m. of a vehicle traveling south in the northbound lanes on U.S. 75 Highway near 110th Street.

A Sheriff's Deputy witnessed Rivera who was driving a grey Explorer collide head-on with a Mazda truck on Westgate Bridge.

Rivera refused treatment at the scene and was arrested.

The male driver of the Mazda truck had to be extricated from his vehicle.

He was taken to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. Rivera was released from the Shawnee County jail on a $1,000 bond.
