WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) The son of billionaire and, known for funding Democratic candidates, is co-hosting a major New York City fundraiser for U.S. Senate Independent candidate Greg Orman.
An invitation obtained by the American Rising PAC shows Goldman Sachs' Joseph Gleberman, Gotham Capital Partners' John Perry, banker Gavin Wolfe, and Jonathan Soros, the son of billionaire hedge fund activist, George Soros. Jonathan Soros helped start the Friends Of Democracy PAC two years ago.
"I think these people, who are supporting him, they do want him to be a Democrat. I think the Soros people, obviously, that's what they identify with and policies that are that way," said Ken Ciboski, political science professor at Wichita State University.
The Orman campaign had no comment on the fundraiser. However, they said that Orman will be attending a debate on Wednesday in Wichita.
Ads have been running on television and radio, taking aim at Orman's stance as an Independent. Orman's campaign said he is getting bi-partisan support.
"We've gotten support from Republicans, Democrats, Independents, who believe that Greg is going to make a difference in Washington," said Mike Phillips, spokesperson.
Phillips also said that Orman's campaign does not accept money from political action committees (PACs) or lobbyists.
