Cub Scouts Learn The Ropes At Zoo Tiger Day

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Tigers took over the Topeka Zoo Sunday -- that's the youngest of the Cub Scouts.

The Cub Scouts got a chance to visit the zoo and learn the requirements for the Bobcat Award, the first award a cub can earn.

Life scouts, who are members of the Order of the Arrow, an elite honor society of the boy scouts, taught the cubs what they needed to know.

"We're trying to teach them the basics, so they'll be successful, so they will come on to be boy scouts, will go to summer camp, become active in an O-A," Life Scout Ryan Peacocke said, referring to the Order of the Arrow. "We're just teaching them the salute and the law, things they need to know," he said.

The older boy scouts also got a chance to earn a Merit Badge by attending classes and then giving zoo attendees presentations about the zoo's animals.
