ATCHISON, Kan. (WIBW)-- An Atchison man is behind bars after allegedly trying to run over a Sheriff's Deputy during a high speed chase.

Jackson County Sheriff Tim Morse said 23 year old Ryan Marcus Brownfield faces charges for attempted second degree murder, aggravated battery, obstruction and fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement for the incident that happened march 12th.

Morse said during the chase, Brownfield allegedly left the road and attempted to hit a sheriff's deputy after stop sticks were deployed in the 16,000 block of Highway K-16.

The deputy was not hurt, but officials said the vehicle Brownfield was driving, a stolen Nissan Armada, then crashed into a highway patrol car and then sped off in the other direction.

Brownfield was taken into custody a short time later after he fled the vehicle on foot.

He was initially transported to the Atchison County Jail.

Brownfield was booked into the Jackson County Jail Thursday on $250,000 bond.
