TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)-- An alert nose helped keep a fire in the garage from spreading to the rest of the home.

According to the Topeka Fire Dept., firefighters were called to the 3800 block of SW Cambridge Avenue shortly 6:00 p.m. after someone smelled smoke and found an active fire within the attached garage of the home.

When the first firefighters arrived, they reported light smoke coming from the attached garage. Crews discovered a small work bench on fire. They were able to extinguish it and keep it contained to the work bench.
