A gunman opened fire in a church in Neosho, Missouri, this afternoon, killing 3 people and wounding several others.

City spokeswoman Desiree Bridges said a call came in to police
about 2 p.m. from the First Congregational Church near downtown
Neosho. An unknown number of people -- but fewer than 10 -- were
also shot in the church sanctuary.

The male suspect is being held at the Newton County Jail, but
authorities are not releasing any information about him. Bridges
said he had three firearms on him, but wouldn't say what type. The
shooting followed the 1 p.m. service.

She said 25 to 50 hostages were held. Negotiations lasted about
10 minutes, while police were in the church basement. Bridges also
said the suspect was related to someone in the church, but she did
not elaborate.
