Northern Kansas Crash Kills 2-- Updated

13 News spoke to the State Trooper based in Salina who is investigating the accident that killed two people.

The State Trooper says that he can confirm everyone involved in the accident was wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.

He also stated that at this time he is waiting on toxicology reports to be returned to him from the lab.


BELLEVILLE, Kansas (AP) The Kansas Highway Patrol says two people are dead after an overnight collision near Belleville, just south of the Nebraska line.

Troopers say an eastbound Camaro driven by 15-year-old Jacob Valek of Agenda ran a stop sign on a side road shortly early today and broadsided a Humvee traveling south on U.S. 81.

The crash killed Valek and a passenger in the Humvee identified as 39-year-old Donald Ray Ashton of Rowlett, Texas.

Thirty-eight-year-old Kelly Lynn Ashton was seriously injured and airlifted to Bryan LGH West in Lincoln, Nebraska. The Humvee driver, 27-year-old William Helton of Spring, Texas, was also injured and taken to Republic County Hospital in Belleville.
