Democrats, Republicans Argue Over Health Care

By  |

Democratic legislative leaders are frustrated over a lack of discussion about health care issues.

But Republican leaders say that the debate is coming.

Speaker Melvin Neufeld says a task force of his fellow House Republicans should unveil a plan next week for decreasing the number of Kansans without insurance and controlling costs for Kansans who do have coverage.

Senate President Steve Morris, also a Republican, says a committee is working on a plan for a central clearinghouse through which people would purchase insurance.

But Democrats have their own ideas.

They include allowing small businesses to form associations to purchase health insurance and allowing up to 1,000 employees of small businesses to join the health plan for state employees.
