Kansas Medical School Dean Hopes for Stem Cell Vote

Missouri voters approved a constitutional amendment protecting stem cell research but the University of Kansas School of Medicine could see some of the benefit.

Dean Barbara Atkinson says ties with the Stowers Institute for Medical Research in Kansas City, Missouri, could help the school win a national designation as a comprehensive cancer center.

Atkinson says collaboration with the Stowers Institute also will help faculty recruiting efforts and help undo Kansas' anti-science reputation.

The Stowers institute is one of the region's leading bioscience facilities. It recently committed a $34 million research endowment to the medical school.
