TOPEKA, Kan. - On April 22, 2009 at approximately 7:55 p.m. Shawnee County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to an accident, involving three vehicles at the intersection of SE 45th St. and SE West Edge Road.

Sheriff's deputies say a 2004 Ford F-150, driven by Hector M. Martinez-Sariana, 19, of Topeka, was southbound on West Edge Rd. and attempted to make a counter-clockwise U- turn in the intersection of SE 45th when it collided with a motorcycle.

The motorcycle, driven by Mark A. Uhlrig, 50, of Topeka, was westbound on 45th St. when it collided with the truck, careened off the truck and hit a passenger car.

The car, according to officials, was a 2002 Ford Taurus driven by Rochelle D. Walsh, 36, of Topeka. It stopped facing south on West edge at SE 45th.

The truck had 3 occupants including the driver; all were wearing seatbelts and sustained no injuries.

Authorities say the driver of the motorcycle was transported to Stormont-Vail Hospital with serious injuries and later flown to KU Medical Center in Kansas City for treatment.

Leanna J. Raine, 45, of Topeka was a passenger on the motorcycle. She sustained life-threatening injuries during the accident and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

Both occupants of the Ford Taurus were wearing their seatbelts and sustained no injuries as a result of the crash.
