Despite the date, it was summer in parts of Kansas Saturday. The National Weather Service says the temperature in Garden City hit 101, breaking the record of 93 in 1948.
Record highs were also tied in Hays and Liberal. It was 102 in Hays, tying a record set in 1948. And it was 99 in Liberal, tying the record set in 1948.
Temperatures in the high 90s and around 100 were also set in other cities, including 100 in Medicine Lodge, 102 in Russell, 98 in Wichita, 99 in Hill City, 99 in Pratt and 98 in Salina.
The forecast calls for much cooler temperatures today, with
highs generally in the mid- to high 80s.
