(WIBW) - For the first time his career, Whit Merrifield is an MLB All-Star.

The Royals star found out on Sunday that he made the American League roster as a reserve. He is the lone Kansas City representative for this year's All-Star Game, which will be played on July 9 at 6:30 p.m.

Currently, Merrifield is second in the MLB in hits with 106 after leading the majors in that category last season. He's batting .301 with 11 home runs and 42 RBI.

Merrifield has also shown off his versatility this season, making starts in right field (36), second base (32), center field (7), first base (4), designated hitter (3) and left field (1). He’s one of six players this year who has started at every outfield position and at least two infield positions.
