Washburn volleyball handling high expectations

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Washburn volleyball knows what people are going to expect this season.

"Everybody's going to think we should just automatically go back there," Ichabod head coach Chris Herron said.

"There" would be the Final Four, as the Ichabods made it to the national semifinals for just the second time in program history last year. They return 12 players from that team, meaning the expectations will be to either get past that stage or go further.

"That's one of the messages that I sent to my team yesterday in our meetings, we have to manage expectations," Herron said.

Even though they had a memorable run, the Ichabods still have their goals set higher to break through the semifinals.

"We wanted to be national champions and I think losing, it kind of stuck right in the moment," junior defensive specialist Faith Rottinghaus said. "But it's going to give us more motivation for this year to be able to have that as our end goal and really want to push and to get better so we can get that and not feel the way that we did last year."
