TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- After a seven-game winning streak was ended by Central Missouri on Thursday, the Washburn Ichabods softball team started a new winning streak by sweeping Southwest Baptist Friday.
The Ichabods beat the Bearcats 8-0 in the first game after Megan Deiter threw a one-hit shutout in five innings. Deiter improved her record to 16-0 this season.
Washburn took the lead in the second inning, scoring four runs in the frame. It started with Ashley Ruder being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to score the first run of the game.
Lexie Myers entered the game with 5 RBI this season. She had a RBI single after Ruder reached base. Myers finished the day with 3 RBI.
Game two was a walkoff winner for the Ichabods.
Washburn trailed 3-1 in the 6th but managed to tie it and eventually force extra innings.
Taylor Kirk hit a walkoff home run to lead off the 8th inning to give Washburn the 4-3 win.
