EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) -- A matchup of the two winningest MIAA programs in the 21st century looked just as described.
The Washburn women's basketball team topped No. 23 Emporia State, 96-88, in double overtime on Saturday. The Ichabods have now won two straight over the Hornets.
The meeting was just the second decided in double overtime in the series history. The last time was the 2003-04 season.
Tyra Jones led ESU with 24 points followed by Jessica Wayne with 17 and Emily Miller with 16.
Washburn trailed by as much as 14 during the second period before coming back for the Ichabods' first extra period victory in the series.
Hunter Bentley led Washburn with a career-best 29 points, followed by Taylor Blue with 27 and Reagan Phelan with 17.
With the win, the Ichabods move to 8-4 on the season (3-0 MIAA) and with the loss, the Hornets move to 10-3 (1-2 MIAA).
