Washburn baseball's late rally not enough against SBU

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- An eighth inning rally by the Washburn baseball team fell short on Saturday against Southwest Baptist, with the Bearcats taking game two of the series 4-3.

The Ichabods trailed 4-0 heading into the eighth inning, then recorded three runs.

The team held SBU scoreless in the ninth, but suffered three straight outs to end the game.

Michael Oyervides led Washburn with 2 hits while Peter Shearer notched 2 RBIs. The Ichabods were outhit by the Bearcats 10-6.

Washburn still has a chance to secure the series win in the third and final game on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled at 1 p.m. at Falley Field.
