Topeka Stars representing Special Olympics Kansas at Special Olympics North America Softball Championships
Topeka athletes will be representing Special Olympics Kansas in international competition.
The Topeka Stars will be playing in the Special Olympics North America Softball Championships in Nashville this weekend. More than 250 Special Olympics athletes and Unified Partners will compete representing 17 teams from the United States and Canada Special Olympics programs.
The Stars have 13 athletes from the Topeka area. This will be their fourth trip to the North America Softball Championships and their coach believes the experience provides a lot for his athletes.
"Their abilities can be showcased and they can prove to the world that they're ready to play and they're capable of playing at a high level," head coach Allan Henderson said.
And it's a chance for the Stars to showcase the bond they've built.
"We're like a big family," Topeka Star Harley Rich said. "And we're brothers. We do everything together."
