TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- The Topeka Pilots have just three games left in the regular season, with the final spot in the playoffs on the line.
According to team owner Lamar Hunt, Jr., though, the team has at least another year left in the capital city.
"We will be here next year," Hunt said. "We're just working out a few details on the lease. We've got the dates from the building. The league will work on the schedule for us and they'll get that out as soon as possible."
In the team's inaugural season, Hunt said he thinks his team has improved on the ice.
Plus, the Pilots have five more wins now than it did all of last year.
Hunt has also noticed an uptick in ticket sales and sponsorships.
"It takes a little bit of time to get that trust, that hey, we're going to be here, we're sustainable," Hunt said. "We like our relationship with the Kansas Expocentre."
When the new name for the team was revealed last year, Hunt said the team had a one-year deal with the Expocentre plus a one-year option.
The Pilots close out their home schedule on Saturday, March 30, against Lone Star before traveling to Corpus Christi on April 5-6 to close out the regular season.
