Bill Self calls Les Miles "a home run hire"

LAWRENCE, Kan. (WIBW) - Kansas is the only school in the country with active men's basketball and football coaches owning national titles.

On Monday, the KU basketball one gave his approval for Les Miles.

"I think it's not a good choice," Bill Self said. "It's a home run hire."

Self said he got to meet Miles and his family briefly on Sunday. He believes the national championship pedigree the former LSU coach brings will really help attract players to the Jayhawks.

"He's brought home the gold before," Self said. "And I mean, there's not too many guys or recruits that get the chance to play for a national championship coach. It'll certainly energize our university and our fan base."

Self thought back to previous Kansas football hires and believes Miles' resume is something that separates him.

"Les's credentials are off the chart," Self said. "This guy is competing with Alabama each and every year for the right to play for an SEC championship and be a part of the College Football Playoff. I think that's terrific."
