TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - On Family Day at Yager Stadium, Craig Schurig fittingly turned to his son to make a difference at quarterback.
Mitch Schurig delivered, throwing four touchdowns in the first half to lead Washburn to a 28-21 victory over Central Missouri. The victory snaps a six-game losing streak in the Ichabods' series with the Mules.
With starting quarterback Blake Peterson sidelined with an ankle injury, Schurig stepped in to throw for 361 yards. But the first half saw all of the scoring action.
It was up to the Ichabod defense to slow down the second-ranked offense in the country in the second half. It responded, holding its own as both teams didn't score in the final two quarters. Washburn also finished the day with four interceptions.
Next up for the Ichabods is a road trip to Missouri Western State University on Sept. 29.
