Royals sign reliever Brad Boxberger to one-year deal

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) - The Royals announced an addition to their bullpen on Thursday.

Kansas City has signed reliever Brad Boxberger to a one-year contract. ESPN and MLB Network have reported the deal is for $2.2 million with $1 million in performance bonuses.

The right-handed pitcher spent last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks. He had the fourth-most saves in the National League last season with 32 while sporting an ERA of 4.39.

Before Arizona, Boxberger was with the Tampa Bay Rays for four seasons. There, he had career season in 2015 with 41 saves before becoming a set-up man for the rest of his time. He also spent two seasons with the San Diego Padres to start in the majors.

For his career, Boxberger has an ERA of 3.42 with 76 saves and 368 strikeouts over seven years.
