Kansas City Royals’ catcher Salvador Perez has been sidelined after injuring his right elbow Wednesday during a workout, according to the team.

The Royals say the 28-year-old All-Star underwent an MRI on Thursday and it revealed damage to his ulnar collateral ligament. He will travel to Los Angeles next week for a second opinion.

The team did not say how badly the ligament was damaged or if the injury could mean he will have to start the season on the disabled list.

Perez has only played in one game this spring, serving as DH in a game against the Dodgers the day before his was injured.
