KANSAS CITY, Mo. (WIBW) -- A record deal could be in the cards for Chiefs’ sensation Patrick Mahomes.
Sources are telling ESPN, Kansas City will (obviously) want to re-sign the second-year quarterback as soon as he’s eligible for an extension in 2020. But, keeping Mahomes won’t be cheap.
ESPN reports he could become the largest ever and the first one to top $200 million. The website does note that the true amount will likely depend on how the deal is structured and how much is guaranteed.
Whatever the final number is, they expect it to dwarf Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rogers 4-year/$134 million contract.
Starting every game for the Chiefs, he became just the second player in NFL history to throw for more than 5,000 yards and 50 touchdowns in the same season. More importantly, he has led Kansas City to the AFC Championship game -- a win away from the team's first Super Bowl in nearly a half-century.
