PERRY, Kan. (WIBW) - It's a moment that took an enumerable amount of hours and hard contributions, but Perry-Lecompton advanced to the State Championship. The team had to fight for this moment. In the sub-state game, the Kaws trailed by two scores. But, the team fought back and reclaimed a lead they wouldn't hold on to.
Perry-Lecompton will play Andale for the 3A State Championship Nov. 30 at Hutchinson Community College.
"It's a great feeling." Head Coach Mike Paramore said. "I mean, a chance where you can play to the last weekend of the year and our kids have been successful and have found a way to get there. It's a great feeling. Good to still be practicing."
The Kaws one-two combination at quarterback and running back played a crucial role in the victory. QB Billy Welch passed for a trio of scores and running back Thad Metcalfe ran in two touchdowns.
"You get with the team after you shake hands and the adrenaline kind of kicks in but yet you're not all there yet." Welch said. "And then I think when they give you the trophy it sets in."
"The joy, the rush of adrenaline is something else." Metcalfe said. "It's kind of cool to feel like the crowd behind you. The excitement by everyone."
