MARYVILLE, Mo. (WIBW) - It was a tall order for Washburn football in its road opener and the Ichabods came up short.

They fell 38-17 to No. 7 Northwest Missouri State on Saturday. It was a game Washburn actually led twice, but the Bearcats outscored the Bods 24-3 in the second half to secure a win.

James Letcher Jr. had a standout day for Washburn with eight catches for 113 yards and a touchdown. The Ichabods couldn't contain Northwest's rushing attack, as the Bearcats finished with 172 yards on the ground.

Washburn will next host Fort Hays State on Sept. 21.
