TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- Forget Thank You notes. When a school develops a player into your newest defensive back, you want to send something more than a card - and for the New York Giants, that means a game ball.
"Please accept this game ball as a token of our appreciation for the time, effort and energy your University put into the development of Corey Ballentine," the NFL franchise said in a letter to Washburn University that accompanied the football.
"The skills he learned at Washburn have prepared him to be a valuable member of the New York Football Giants both on and off the field," it continued.
Ballentine was drafted by the Giants over the summer after starring for the Ichabods and is already making a big impression on the Big Apple.
In the team's preseason opener earlier this month, he snagged a highlight-reel interception as well as a 40-yard kickoff return.
"I've always felt like I could compete at this level with these types of athletes," the former Washburn star said after the game.
The Giants' letter urges Washburn to show off the ball as a symbol of the team's "gratitude to the countless number of people who helped him on his journey."
