(WIBW) - Multiple Washburn and Emporia State basketball men's and women's basketball players were honored Tuesday with MIAA awards and All-MIAA designations.
Leading the way for the women is Jessica Wayne of Emporia State. She is the association's Defensive Player of the Year after leading the MIAA in steals (105). Wayne is a second-team All-MIAA player and made the All-Defensive Team Team too.
One of Wayne's teammates, Tyra Jones, is the lone Washburn or ESU women's representative on the All-MIAA first team. Jones is averaging 15.5 points and 7.7 rebounds per game on the season.
The Ichabods have a first-team honoree on the men's side in guard Javion Blake. Blake earned this after leading the Ichabods and finishing seventh in the MIAA in scoring at 19.6 ppg while averaging 4.9 rpg and 2.5 apg finishing third on the team with 23 total steals.
Washburn also has an All-MIAA second team player for the women in Raegan Phelan. She finished the regular season as the conference leader in assists (131) and assists per game (4.7) while taking second in assist-turnover ratio (2.0).
Ichabod senior David Salach is on the MIAA All-Defensive Team. He has a team-high 28 blocks this season and will finish his career second on the all-time blocks list at Washburn entering the conference tournament with 104 blocks.
