Members of Washburn Rural boys wrestling head to State

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) -- In the KSHSAA 6A Regional, it was a special day for several area wrestling squads on Saturday.

13 Grapplers from Shawnee Heights qualified for the 5A State tournament.

14 Washburn Rural wrestlers also punched their ticket to State.

Senior Andrew Davis placed second on the 220 weight class and Gavin Carter remained undefeated after winning the 195 pound weight division.

Junior Blues say they are ready to take a trip to State next.

"All week we've been taking care of business as a team, just wrecking shop," Gavin Carter, senior, Washburn Rural said.
"Feel good, but I still got work to do, still focus on working hard, got another week of practice, another week of competition."

My mindset through out was keep trying to push him, see if I could find any weakness that he has that I could exploit somehow," Andrew Davis, senior, Washburn Rural said. "I feel really good, me losing to anyone, I'm glad I lost to him like he was a really tough cookie and I can't wait to rematch him in state for the finals."

This will be Andrew's second time wrestling for a State title and Gavin's making his fourth trip.
