TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Nine-time state champion baseball coach Steve Bushnell is stepping into a new role at Seaman High School after nearly three decades in the district, Seaman announced Tuesday.
Bushnell will take the helm as the school's athletic director at the beginning of the 2020-2021 school year.
Bushnell and the Seaman baseball team are coming off back-to-back titles in 2018 and 2019. In 2018, he was named the American Baseball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year.
"Mr. Bushnell has proven himself to be a skilled and effective leader who understands, supports, and advances the mission, values, and vision of athletics in the Seaman School District," the school wrote on their Facebook page. "We look forward to his future work on behalf of our students and the Seaman High School Viking Athletics Department."
Bushnell, a former baseball player at Emporia State, was inducted into ESU's Athletics Hall of Honor last fall. He takes over for Brad Dietz, who will retire at the end of the school year after 42 years at Seaman.
"We thank Mr. Dietz for his exemplary years at Seaman High School and look forward to seeing athletics continue to thrive under Mr. Bushnell’s leadership."
