EMPORIA, Kan. (WIBW) - The points were aplenty, but they did not end up in favor of Emporia State.
Lindenwood outlasted the Hornets in a shootout, winning 48-41 on Saturday. The two teams combined for 1,105 total yards.
Emporia couldn't contain Lion quarterback Cade Brister. He threw for 308 yards and five touchdowns. Hornet signal caller Braxton Marstall actually threw for more yards with 404, but scored through the air just twice.
The Hornets got out to a 13-0 lead and even led 20-7 at one point. That's when Lindenwood ripped off 27 unanswered points before holding on for the 48-41 victory.
Emporia State will travel next week to face Northwest Missouri State on Sept. 29.
