(WIBW) - For the first time since 2005, Kansas has a new high school state championship sport.
The KSHSAA voted 63-2 to sanction girls wrestling. 2020 will be the first year with a state championship for the sport.
There will be a two-year transition period that will allow girls to wrestle in either girls' or boys' lineups. After that is finished, girls will compete against other girls.
Kansas is the 15th state to sanction girls wrestling.
