TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - Last season, Seaman High relied heavily upon quarterback Kobe Jones. He was the teams leading rusher and passer. Jones has since graduated, meaning a new crop of quarterbacks will be expected to take a step up.
Linebacker/tight end Drayton Foster listens to his coaches during fall camps. The season kicks off in a couple of weeks.
As it stands, Brayden Vawter will be the week one starter. However, once junior Reid Cowan recovers from mononucleosis, both should be expected to take snaps under center.
""Well Reed is that 6'3 190 pound guy that can see over the line a little bit. Has that strong arm." Head coach Glenn O'Niel said. "Brayden, for us, he's a really intelligent football player that can probably play 5 positions."
Vawter is the team's returning leader in passing and rushing yardage.
"We just have to have leadership and when our name gets called we just have to be ready to go and no doubts at all. Be prepared during practice and be ready to go." Brayden Vawter said.
Last season, Seaman High finished 5-5 with an appearance in the second round of the playoffs. The injury bug was a problem for the Vikings throughout the year. Maintaining a healthy roster will be key for this years squad.
